NCERT Solutions For Class 6 Maths Chapter 1 Exercise 1.3

Here we provide NCERT Class 6 maths Chapter 1 solutions/ question and answer.

Class 6 Maths exercise 1.3 Solutions Q1
Q.1. Estimate each of the following using general rules:
(a) 730 + 998 (b) 796 – 314 (c) 12904 + 2888 (d) 28292 – 21496
Make ten more such examples of addition, subtraction and estimation of their outcome.

(a) 730 + 998
Ans:-
Rounding off 730 nearest to hundreds = 700
Rounding off 998 nearest to hundreds = 1,000
∴ 730 + 998 = 700 + 1000 = 1700

(b) 796 – 314
Ans:-
Rounding off 796 nearest to hundreds = 800
Rounding off 314 nearest to hundreds = 300
∴ 796 – 314 = 800 – 300 = 500

(c) 12904 + 2888
Ans:-
Rounding off 12,904 nearest to thousands = 13000
Rounding off 2888 nearest to thousands = 3000
∴ 12,904 + 2,888 = 13000 + 3000 = 16000

(d) 28292 – 21496
Ans:-
Rounding off 28,292 nearest to thousands = 28,000
Rounding off 21,496 nearest to thousands = 21,000
∴ 28,292 – 21,496 = 28,000 – 21,000 = 7,000

Ten more such examples are:-
(i) 6440 – 2972 = 6000 – 3000 = 3000
(ii) 6393 – 3774 = 6000 – 4000 = 2000
(iii) 1110 – 1292 = 1000 – 1000 = 0
(iv) 1927 + 3185 = 2000 + 3,000 = 5,000
(v) 3258 – 1698 = 3000 – 2000 = 1,000
(vi) 8735 + 6232 = 9000 + 6000 = 15,000
(vii) 3731 + 1300 = 4000 + 1000 = 5000
(viii) 330 + 280 = 300 + 300 = 600
(ix) 1210 + 2365 = 1200 + 2400 = 3600
(x) 9854 – 6385 = 10,000 – 6000 = 4,000

(ii) Rounding off to nearest tens
439 + 334 + 4317 = 440 + 330 + 4320 = 5090.

(b) 108734 – 47599
Ans:-
(i) Rounding off to nearest hundreds
1,08,734 – 47,599 = 1,08,700 – 47,600 = 61,100
(ii) Rounding off to nearest tens

8325 – 491 = 8300 – 500 = 7800
(ii) Rounding off to nearest tens
8325 – 491 = 8330 – 490 = 7840.

(d) 489348 – 48365

8246 – 6312 = 8200 – 6300 = 1900
(ii) Rounding off to nearest tens
8246 – 6312 = 8250 – 6310 = 1940
(3) 6653 – 8265

What we learn

In NCERT Solutions For Class 6 Maths Chapter 1 Ex 1.3 we learn about Estimation, Rounding off, and approximation. We also do multiplication addition and subtraction questions with the help of Estimation and round off.

We recommend you to read Class 6 Maths NCERT Books. You can also download class 6 ncert books for other subjects also.

What is Estimation?

Estimation is the process of finding approximation.

What is Rounding off?

Rounding means replacing a number with the approximate value which is near that number.

How do we round off a number to the nearest 10

rounding off nearest to 10 means approximate last two digits of the given number in the multiple of ten. eg-
consider 2 no 12 and 19. If we plot these numbers in number line we find that both no. 12 and 19 lie between 10 and 20. Also, 12 is near to 10 while 19 is near 20. So round off 12 is 10 nearest to tens while round off 19 is 20 nearest to tens. so we can say that rounding of 10 means that we wish to round off the last two-digit number by two method

What are the types of rounding off?

There are two types of rounding off.
1. round-up 2. Rounding down.
If the number at tens places is 5 or more than 5 (6,7,8,9), then the number is rounding up otherwise rounding down. In a similar way, we round off hundred, thousand, and so on. In the round of hundred, we round off the last 3 digits and so on.
